Har Ki Dun is one of the most famous trails in the western Himlayas. The valley of Har Ki Dun is located at the base of Fateh Parvat, at an elevation of 11500ft. The valley is surrounded by dense pine forests and offers views of glittering mountain peaks. Owing to its isolation, the area is a paradise for bird watchers and nature lovers. Swargarohini and Jaundar Glacier are located to the south-east of Har Ki Dun. Towards the west one can see Bandar Poonch peak. Har ki Dun trek is an exposure to the life of locals and an experience of their cultures as it provides a chance to stay in the beautiful nature stays while on the trek. Given to its beauty & moderate difficulty level this is an ideal trek for both experienced trekkers and beginners.

Itinerary

Report at the base camp at Sankri by 5PM and complete the registration process. Sankri is 185 Kms away from Dehradun. One can get a shared taxi or public transport for Sankri from Dehradun bus stand early in the morning . It will take 7-9 hours to reach Sankri from Dehradun. Attend an orientation session given by the chief organizer/guide which will cover the information like rucksack packing, marching/walking technique and general awareness about the trek route. A comfortable stay arrangement is made at Sankri(6397 ft).
Transfer by jeep from Sankri to Taluka, and soon after reaching Taluka, trek begins towards Puani Garaat. Tents will be set up at Puani Garaat(8280 ft) for overnight stay. (13 kms, 8 hours)
The trek begins early in the morning. Initially the trail climbs gradually and later gets steep at times and goes past through beautiful meadows and huts. Reach the campsite at Har Ki Dun which is located by a small stream, with peaks of Har Ki Dun and Swargarohini towering above. Overnight stay is arranged at HAR Ki Dun campsite(11768 ft) in tents. (11 km, 6 hours)
Upon reaching Har ki Dun, the sheer beauty of the valley will make you never want to leave the place. Participants rest for a day and enjoy the beauty of the place exploring nearby places of interest. At Har ki Dun, one can see the vast grounds below Swaragrohini peak. The meadows here are full of alpine flowers. Trekkers are advised to sleep early on this day to compensate for the next day's early start.
Trek starts early as trekkers have a lot of ground to cover this day. Trekkers steadily head back to Kalkatiyadhaar and then to Osla. Everyone takes a quick break at Osla and then move on to Puani Garaat. Overnight stay is arranged at Puani Garaat campsite(8250 ft) in tents. (11 km, 6 hours)
Trek 13 km to Taluka, followed by a 12 km drive from Taluka to Sankri. The way back to Sankri is an easy one with consistent descents and level walks all the way to Taluka. Rest at Sankri(6937 ft) in either wooden stays or tents based on availability.(25 km 8 hours)
After few farewell speeches and gossips, participants have breakfast and say cheese for a quick photo shoot. Arrangements are made for the checkout.

ID Proof, YATA-India booking receipt, original medical certificate stating your fitness & two passports sized photographs are a must to enter the Base Camp. Without these documents, participants will not be allowed to proceed further at the Base Camp.
